20.11.07 Powerpoint Amnesty International Greetings Card Campaign 2007
20.11.07 Video to support AI signing H Myers

AI signature spot

I organise our school AI youth group, and have just done assemblies to invite pupils to come and sign cards for the four cases picked out for young people.

If your school is not a member, I would thoroughly recommend it as a way of ticking lots of boxes (Citizenship, PSE, Internationalism, Languages etc) ... as well as hopefully giving support to individuals at risk. The fact that AI is non-political and non-religious helps to run it in a school. It is not very expensive for a yearly membership (£21 for a group of less than 100, £27 over 100). http://www.amnesty.org.uk/content.asp?CategoryID=10349

To join: http://www.amnesty.org.uk/uploads/documents/doc_16931.pdf

The annual Greetings Card Campaign is a gentle way of getting pupils involved ... we just prepare cards from old Xmas cards (tearing off the picture) and the pupils write the message on the other side. I enlarge the PowerPoint slides to put posters around the school.

Here's a link to the AI site about the campaign (from which you can order resources) http://www.amnesty.org.uk/content.asp?CategoryID=10673

And now for a request which would improve the experience linguistically ...!

Can anyone translate the following: preferably before Friday when we have our first event ... but later's fine as we will repeat it on subsequent Fridays)

‘My thoughts are with you’ - into Arabic:

In solidarity with your important human rights work: Mandarin Chinese:

'In solidarity with your important human rights work': Shona:

'In solidarity with your important human rights work': Ndebele

Thanks in anticipation! (And if anyone else does AI groups and has resources to share with me, please get in touch off forum ... AI is great at providing resources, but the more the better!)

Helen
